Frequently asked questions

What sensors does the CIL050 5mm M12 lens support?

The CIL034 is a 3.25mm M12 lens with 0.07% TV distortion in the usable image area. It gives 102° diagonal field of view on an 8.0mm image circle and covers 1/3\" to 1/2\" sensors depending on which aperture version you choose.

This lens uses pincushion distortion on purpose. The low distortion means straight lines stay straight enough for measurement and inspection without software correction. The F/2.3 version resolves 5MP at 2.4μm pixel pitch

How much distortion does the CIL050 have?

the F/2.7 version handles 8-10MP at 1.85μm

What is the image circle of the CIL050?

and the F/4.2 version resolves 6MP at 2.2μm. Pick the faster aperture when light matters more

Is the CIL050 compatible with the IMX226 sensor?

and pick the slower one when depth of field matters more.

Hybrid glass and plastic optics sit in an aluminum barrel. The M12A variant ships with IP67+ sealing and a 17mm diameter cap

Which lens holder fits the CIL050 M12 lens?

while M12B is unsealed with a 14mm cap for tighter spaces. Both versions accept optional 650nm or 660nm IR cut filters.

The lens mounts directly into the Commonlands CLA018 lens holder. It is also compatible with e-con Systems with a 9-13mm holder

Does the CIL050 ship same day from the United States?

Allied Vision Alvium

The CIL050 is a 5.1mm M12 lens for large-format 1/1.7" sensors such as the Sony IMX226. It uses a fixed F/2.0 aperture, gives 120° diagonal field of view across a 9.3mm image circle, and supports 12MP resolution, so it targets wide coverage on higher-resolution sensors.

The spec that matters here is more than 20% MTF at 320 lp/mm. That is enough resolving power for small-pixel sensors, which is why this lens can support 12MP instead of only filling the sensor with soft edge detail. Distortion is -17% TV, so the edges bend noticeably. That trade is usually fine for robotics navigation and surveillance, but it is the wrong choice for measurement or inspection unless you plan on software correction.

All-glass optics sit in an aluminum barrel with BBAR coating on the first surface. The lens weighs 11g. The product page calls out good stray light performance, and that matters when bright sources sit near the edge of a very wide field. This lens only comes in an M12A variant, so it has no ingress protection.

The lens is compatible with the Commonlands CLA020 lens holder with 20mm mounting hole spacing. It also works with e-con Systems boards using a 9-13mm holder, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart S-mount cameras. On the Onsemi AR0521 it delivers a 64° × 47° field of view, and on the Sony IMX335 a 58° × 43° field of view. You can calculate your field of view.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego for orders before 12 PM PST. Every CIL050 is individually MTF tested on Trioptics equipment. Contact engineering@commonlands.com if you need STP files or volume pricing.
