Frequently asked questions

What resolution sensors is the CIL216 195° M12 fisheye lens designed for?

The CIL216 is meant for 14-18MP sensors with 1.3μm pixels on 1/2.3″ format, including sensors such as the IMX219 and AR2020.

What is the image circle and FoV of the CIL216 fisheye M12 lens?

The CIL216 has a 4.7mm image circle with a 195-degree FoV, which produces a circular fisheye on 1/2.3″ 4:3 sensors.

What is the difference between the CIL216 M12A and M12B variants?

Both M12A and M12B use AL6061 aluminum barrels. The difference is in the barrel construction details, so check the mechanical drawing for thread and outer diameter specs before locking in a housing.

Is the CIL216 195° M12 fisheye IP67 rated?

No. The CIL216 is not IP67 rated, so it is better suited to indoor or mechanically housed installations.

What camera platforms are compatible with the CIL216 1.55mm M12 fisheye?

The CIL216 works with Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, The Imaging Source M12 boards, Basler Dart S-Mount, and e-con Systems boards with an 8-15mm tall mount.

Does Commonlands offer STP files for the CIL216 M12 fisheye lens?

Yes. STP files and mechanical drawings for the CIL216 are available on request from our US engineering team.

CIL216 is a 195-degree fisheye M12 lens for high-resolution sensors in the 14-18MP range. The 1.55mm EFL, F/2.2 aperture, and 4.7mm image circle produce a circular fisheye on 1/2.3" sensors. The optical design resolves 1.3μm pixels, so a 14MP-plus sensor is not wasted here.

Distortion is -11% F-Θ, which is relatively low for a 195-degree fisheye. That mapping keeps angular resolution more consistent across the frame, which helps panoramic stitching and omnidirectional surveillance. The all-glass construction also holds up better under thermal cycling than a lighter hybrid stack.

Two barrel variants are available. M12A and M12B both use AL6061 aluminum, and neither is IP67 rated. Plan on indoor use or a housed installation. Order CIL216-F2.2-M12A650 or CIL216-F2.2-M12B650 for a 650nm IR cut filter, or order CIL216-F2.2-M12ANIR or CIL216-F2.2-M12BNIR if the system needs NIR.

Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, The Imaging Source M12 boards, and Basler Dart S-Mount are mechanically compatible. iDS uEye LE Rev1.1 fits directly, while Rev1.2 requires the C-NO suffix. e-con Systems boards with an 8-15mm tall S-mount also work, and the Commonlands CLA024 holder is the clean choice for standalone installs.

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from San Diego. Mechanical drawings and STP files are available on request, and volume pricing is available.
