Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL222 fisheye M12 lens?

The CIL222 supports sensors up to 1/1.7 inch format at 5–6MP resolution with 1.85μm pixel pitch, including the ON Semiconductor AR0521 and AR0234. The 6.2mm image circle covers those sensor diagonals.

What is the field of view of the CIL222?

The CIL222 gives 168° field of view at a 6.0mm image circle. Its -6.8% F-Θ distortion keeps pixel displacement close to linear with angle, which simplifies dewarping in panoramic and navigation systems.

Is the CIL222 weatherproof for outdoor cameras?

Yes. The M12A variant is IP69K rated, so it is sealed against high-pressure washdown, dust, and submersion. The all-glass, all-metal construction also holds focus through outdoor temperature swings.

What is the difference between the F/2.0 and F/4.0 CIL222 variants?

The CIL222-F2.0 variant collects more light for low-light and high-frame-rate work. The CIL222-F4.0 variant gives you greater depth of field, but you give up light throughput. Use our depth of field calculator at depth of field calculator to compare the tradeoff.

Does the CIL222 M12 fisheye lens ship from the United States?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

What cameras are compatible with the CIL222?

The CIL222 works with Commonlands CLA018 lens holders and e-con Systems S-mount boards using 7–9mm tall mounts. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, and The Imaging Source cameras are not mechanically compatible with this lens.

The CIL222 is a 2.2mm fisheye M12 lens that gives you 168° at a 6.0mm image circle. At F/2.0, with all-glass all-metal construction and a 4.8g weight, it fits applications that need nearly full-scene coverage without a bulky front end. The lens resolves 5–6MP at 1.85μm pixel pitch on sensors up to 1/1.7" format like the AR0521.

Distortion is -6.8% F-Θ at the 6.0mm image circle. For a 168° fisheye, that is well controlled, and the near-linear F-theta behavior makes dewarping easier in a vision pipeline. The 6.2mm image circle also gives you a little margin beyond the nominal 6.0mm spec. This lens is the one to use for panoramic surveillance, robot navigation, and other jobs where a single camera needs to see almost everything. Calculate coverage at field of view calculator

The optics use all-glass elements in an aluminum barrel, and the total track length is 16.7mm. That package is genuinely small for this class, so you get fisheye coverage without moving to a much larger lens. The lack of plastic elements also helps the focus stay put through outdoor temperature swings.

The M12A variant ships IP69K rated with BBAR coating. You can order CIL222-F2.0-M12A650 with the 650nm IRC for daylight, CIL222-F2.0-M12ANIR for NIR-sensitive sensors, or CIL222-F4.0-M12A650 for a stopped-down variant with greater depth of field. The lens is compatible with Commonlands CLA018 lens holders and e-con Systems boards with 7–9mm tall mounts. Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS, and The Imaging Source cameras are not mechanically compatible.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego before 12 PM PST. Every unit is 100% Trioptics MTF tested. Contact our optical engineers for volume pricing or custom application support.
