Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL344 4.5mm M12 lens?

The CIL344 covers sensors up to 2/3″ format, including the Sony IMX490 and OmniVision OS08A10. The 11.4mm image circle supports 1/1.8″ and 2/3″ sensors with margin.

What is the difference between the F/1.9 and F/2.7 CIL344 variants?

The F/2.7 variant resolves 12MP at 2.2μm pixel pitch for high-resolution inspection. The F/1.9 variant resolves 3MP at 4.2μm pixel pitch and collects roughly twice the light, which makes more sense for low-light robotics and drone work.

Is the CIL344 IP69K rated for outdoor use?

Yes. The M12B variant is IP69K rated for washdown, outdoor, and dusty environments. The standard M12A variant has no ingress protection.

What lens holder does the CIL344 use?

The CIL344 works with the Commonlands CLA024 holder and other compatible mounts. e-con Systems boards need a 12–15mm tall holder instead.

Does the CIL344 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

How much distortion does the CIL344 have?

The CIL344 has -3% F-Theta distortion measured at the 11.0mm image circle. That is moderate for a wide-angle lens, so decide early whether your application can live with it or whether you want software correction.

The CIL344 is a 4.5mm wide-angle M12 lens that covers sensors up to 2/3" format, including the IMX490 and OS08A10. The F/2.7 variant resolves 12MP across a 9.3mm image circle, so it makes sense when pixel count matters. The F/1.9 variant resolves 3MP with an 11.1mm image circle, which is the better trade if light gathering matters more than fine detail.

The lens gives 125° at the 11.0mm image circle, and distortion is -3% F-Θ at that same field height. That is moderate for this much coverage, so you can get a very wide scene without stepping all the way into fisheye behavior. The choice between F/2.7 and F/1.9 is straightforward. Use F/2.7 at 2.2μm pixel pitch for high-resolution inspection, and use F/1.9 at 4.2μm pixel pitch when low-light robotics or drone payloads need more light. Calculate your field of view to match the lens to your sensor.

The optics use all-glass elements in an aluminum barrel, and the first surface has BBAR coating. The standard M12A version handles general integration, while the M12B IP69K variant is the better choice for washdown, outdoor, and dusty environments where you do not want to add sealing work later.

The lens mounts directly to FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart board cameras. It is compatible with the Commonlands CLA024 lens holder (22mm spacing), among other mounting options. e-con Systems boards need a 12–15mm tall holder.

Commonlands keeps this lens in stock in San Diego and ships same day for orders placed before 12 PM PST. An optional 660nm IR cut filter is available. Contact our optical engineers for volume pricing or depth of field estimates with the calculator
