Frequently asked questions

What sensors does the CIL125 12mm M12 lens support?

The CIL125 covers sensors up to 1/2 inch format. At F/2.4 it resolves 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch, at F/3.6 it resolves 8MP at 1.85μm, and at F/8.0 it resolves 3MP at 3μm. Its 8.0mm image circle covers 1/2 inch sensors with margin.

What is the difference between the CIL125 F/2.4, F/3.6, and F/8.0 variants?

All three versions use the same 12.5mm optical design. The F/2.4 version gets the most light and resolves 12MP, the F/3.6 version is the middle ground at 8MP, and the F/8.0 version gives the deepest depth of field at 3MP. Compare them at depth of field calculator

How much distortion does the CIL125 telephoto M12 lens have?

The CIL125 keeps distortion to -1.4% rectilinear across its 35° field. That is low enough for license plate recognition, inspection, and measurement work.

Is the CIL125 compatible with Raspberry Pi HQ Camera?

Yes, the CIL125 works with the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera through M12 mount. The F/2.4 variant resolves the full 12MP of the IMX477.

Does the CIL125 telephoto M12 lens ship from the US?

Yes, in-stock CIL125 lenses ship same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

What cameras are mechanically compatible with the CIL125?

The CIL125 is mechanically compatible with FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, iDS uEye XLS, The Imaging Source M12, Basler Dart, and e-con Systems boards. works with the Commonlands CLA024 holder and other compatible mounts.

The CIL125 is a 12.5mm telephoto M12 lens for sensors up to 1/2" format. It comes in F/2.4, F/3.6, and F/8.0 versions, so you can choose the balance between light, resolution, and depth of field instead of forcing one aperture to do every job.

The F/2.4 variant resolves 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch on sensors like the IMX477. The F/3.6 variant resolves 8MP at 1.85μm, and the F/8.0 variant pushes depth of field furthest while resolving 3MP. Those tradeoffs are straightforward: the faster lens helps when light is limited, while the slower lens helps when you need more of the scene in focus at a fixed working distance.

The lens gives 35° field of view on a 7.9mm image circle, and distortion stays at only -1.4% rectilinear. That combination makes sense for license plate recognition, inspection at longer working distance, and narrow-field monitoring where straight lines still need to look right. The 8.0mm image circle covers 1/2" sensors cleanly.

Hybrid glass and plastic construction keeps weight at 7g. The M12 thread fits any standard M12x0.5 camera board. Order CIL125-F2.4-M12A650, CIL125-F3.6-M12A650, or CIL125-F8.0-M12A650 with the 650nm IR cut filter for daylight machine vision, or order the versions without a filter for NIR applications. You can compare the three aperture options with our depth of field calculator at depth of field calculator

The lens is compatible with the Commonlands CLA024 lens holder (10-15mm tall mount), e-con Systems, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye XLS, The Imaging Source M12, and Basler Dart cameras.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego before 12 PM PST. We 100% MTF test every unit on Trioptics equipment.
