Frequently asked questions

What cameras work with the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER?

The adapter fits any camera with a standard CS-mount, or 1″-32 TPI, port. It also works on C-mount cameras when you add a 5mm C-to-CS spacer ring.

Can I use any M12 lens with the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER?

No. M12 lenses with short mechanical back focal lengths work best, while longer MBFL lenses can interfere with the adapter body before they seat correctly.

Does the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER include a focus lock ring?

Yes. Every CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER includes a matching M12 focus lock ring to hold the lens at the set back focal distance.

What is the difference between CS-mount and C-mount for the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER?

CS-mount uses a 12.526mm flange distance, while C-mount uses 17.526mm. The CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER threads directly into CS-mount cameras, and C-mount cameras need a standard 5mm spacer to make up the difference.

Does the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER ship from the United States?

Yes. Commonlands ships in-stock items same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

Is a 3D model or mechanical drawing available for the CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER?

Yes. The product page includes a 3D viewer, and engineering@commonlands.com can provide .STP files for CAD integration.

The CLA-M12-CS-ADAPTER lets a CS-mount or C-mount camera accept M12, or S-mount, lenses. It is the straightforward way to evaluate M12 optics on an existing board camera without modifying the camera itself. If you already have a CS or C platform and want to test smaller lenses, this adapter gets you there fast.

The body is machined from aluminum and uses an M12x0.5 female thread on the lens side with a male CS-mount thread on the camera side. The included focus lock ring matters because M12 focus is sensitive to back focal distance, and the ring lets you hold that setting once you dial it in. The adapter threads directly into CS-mount cameras, and C-mount cameras need a 5mm spacer because the flange distance is longer.

The adapter works best with M12 lenses that have short mechanical back focal lengths. Longer MBFL lenses can run into the adapter body before they seat correctly, so you should check the mechanical drawing before you order. The product page includes dimensions, and a 3D model is available if the packaging envelope is tight.

The adapter fits standard CS-mount and C-mount industrial cameras from FLIR, Basler, Allied Vision, The Imaging Source, and others. You can read more about mount compatibility at lens mount guide and use our field of view calculator at field of view calculator to confirm your optical setup.

Commonlands ships in-stock adapters same day from San Diego before 12 PM PST, and more than 600 units are in US stock. Volume pricing is available on request.
