Frequently asked questions

What sensors are compatible with the CIL085 8mm M12 lens?

The CIL085 covers 1/1.7″ and 1/1.8″ sensors including the Sony IMX226, Sony IMX678, and ON Semiconductor AR0820. Its 8.9mm image circle fully covers those formats.

How much distortion does the CIL085 have?

The CIL085 has -0.9% TV distortion at the 8.8mm image circle. That is low enough for barcode scanning, OCR, and dimensional measurement in most pipelines without software correction.

What is the difference between the F/3.0 and F/4.4 CIL085 variants?

The F/3.0 variant resolves 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch, so you pick it when detail matters most. The F/4.4 variant resolves 6-8MP and gives you more depth of field when object distance varies.

Which lens holders work with the CIL085 M12 lens?

The Commonlands CLA019 is one compatible holder, and other mounts work as well. FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, Basler Dart, The Imaging Source, and iDS uEye LE Rev1.1 are mechanically compatible, while e-con Systems boards need an 8-15mm tall mount.

Does the CIL085 ship same day from the US?

Yes. In-stock CIL085 lenses ship same day from San Diego for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

Can I get a mechanical drawing or STP file for the CIL085?

Yes. The product page includes a 3D model viewer, and engineering@commonlands.com can provide .STP files and detailed mechanical drawings for CAD integration.

The CIL085 is an 8.2mm M12 lens for 1/1.7" to 1/1.8" sensors including the IMX226, IMX678, and AR0820. It gives you a 57° field of view across an 8.9mm image circle, which is a good middle ground when a 4mm lens sees too much and a 16mm lens feels cramped. The F/3.0 variant resolves 12MP at 1.55μm pixel pitch, while the F/4.4 variant handles 6-8MP and gives you deeper depth of field.

The distortion is -0.9% TV measured at 8.8mm. That is low enough that most barcode reading, PCB inspection, and metrology setups can skip software correction. You can confirm coverage on your sensor at field of view calculator

The 8G+IRC construction uses eight glass elements in an aluminum barrel and keeps total weight to 11g. That optical stack holds up better against temperature shifts and stray light than the cheap webcam class lenses people try first and replace later.

The M12B variant adds BBAR coating and an AL6061 barrel. It fits the Commonlands CLA019 lens holder, FLIR Blackfly S, Allied Vision Alvium, Basler Dart, The Imaging Source, and iDS uEye LE. Rev1.2 boards require part numbers ending in "C-No". e-con Systems boards need an 8-15mm tall holder.

Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship same day from our San Diego warehouse. Every CIL085 is 100% MTF tested before it leaves our facility. You can estimate your depth of field
