Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL058 5.8mm M12 lens?

The CIL058 supports 1/1.7 inch sensors including the Sony IMX678 and IMX334, and it resolves 3MP at 3µm pixel pitch across a 9.0mm image circle.

How much distortion does the CIL058 have?

The CIL058 has just -2% rectilinear distortion at the 9.3mm image circle. That is low enough for dimensional measurement and inspection without software correction in many setups.

What is the difference between F/2.2 and F/4.0 variants of the CIL058?

CIL058-F2.2-M12A650 is the standard choice for general machine vision. CIL058-F4.0-M12A650 gives you more depth of field when sharp focus has to cover a wider range of working distances.

Is the CIL058 weatherproof?

No. The CIL058 M12A variant has no ingress protection. It belongs in controlled indoor environments such as factory automation lines, inspection stations, and lab setups.

Which cameras are compatible with the CIL058 M12 lens?

The CIL058 is compatible with the Commonlands CLA019 holder, e-con Systems S-mount boards with a 9-13mm tall mount, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source M12, and D3 camera modules.

Does the CIL058 ship same day from the US?

Yes. Commonlands ships all in-stock lenses same day from San Diego, California for orders placed before 12 PM PST.

The CIL058 is a 5.8mm M12 lens that covers 1/1.7" sensors like the Sony IMX678 and IMX334. It gives you 79° across a 9.3mm image circle with just -2% rectilinear distortion, which is a strong balance of coverage and geometry control for a large-format M12 optic.

The lens comes in two aperture options. The F/2.2 version is the better general machine vision choice when light is limited, and the F/4.0 version makes more sense when you need greater depth of field across a wider working-distance range. The 9-element all-glass design resolves 3MP at 3µm pixel pitch with a 9.0mm image circle. At 12g, it is heavier than miniature M12 lenses, but that mass pays for optical performance on 1/1.7" sensors. The 11° chief ray angle at 9.6mm also helps keep corner illumination even on sensors with tight microlens acceptance angles.

The optics use all-glass elements in an aluminum barrel with BBAR coating on the first surface. The M12A variant has no ingress protection, so this lens belongs in controlled environments such as factory automation, inspection stations, and lab setups.

The lens is mechanically compatible with the Commonlands CLA019 lens holder with a 9–13mm tall mount, e-con Systems S-mount boards, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, and The Imaging Source M12 cameras. The Imaging Source Rev1.2 boards need part numbers ending in "C-NO". Calculate your field of view to verify coverage on your sensor format.

Commonlands ships this lens same day from San Diego for orders before 12 PM PST. Mechanical drawings and 3D STP files are available on request from our engineering team.
