Frequently asked questions

What sensors work with the CIL382 8mm M12 lens?

The CIL382 supports 1/2.5 inch sensors resolving 2-4MP, including the OX05B1S. Its 7.4mm image circle covers the full sensor diagonal for those formats.

Is the CIL382 IR corrected for day/night use?

Yes. The CIL382 is IR corrected, so visible and NIR wavelengths stay in focus together. That makes it a solid choice for RGBIR sensors and day-night cameras that switch between visible and 850-940nm illumination.

How much distortion does the CIL382 have?

The CIL382 has -5% TV distortion at the 7.2mm image circle. That is fine for surveillance and robotics navigation, but lower-distortion work should move to the CIL078 at CIL078 product page

What aperture options are available for the CIL382?

The CIL382 ships in F/2.0 and F/5.6 versions. You should use F/2.0 for normal light levels, and you should use F/5.6 when the setup needs more depth of field and can tolerate less light.

What cameras are compatible with the CIL382 8mm M12 lens?

The CIL382 works with e-con Systems S-mount boards, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S board-level cameras, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source M12, and Basler Dart cameras. The Commonlands CLA019 lens holder is the standard mount.

Does the CIL382 8mm lens ship same day?

Yes. Orders placed before 12 PM PST ship the same day from San Diego. Contact us if you need volume pricing on the CIL382.

The CIL382 is a 7.8mm IR-corrected M12 lens for 1/2.5" sensors resolving up to 4MP. At $29, it is one of the lowest-cost IR-corrected S-mount lenses in the lineup. The design uses six glass elements in an aluminum barrel, which keeps the construction simple and more thermally stable than plastic-heavy budget lenses.

The CIL382 gives you 53° at the 7.2mm image circle, which matches common 1/2.5" sensors like the OX05B1S. Distortion measures -5% TV at 7.2mm. That is not the cleanest geometry in the catalog, but it is usually acceptable for surveillance, robotics navigation, and general-purpose machine vision where cost and coverage matter more than measurement accuracy. You can check sensor coverage at field of view calculator

The lens uses a fixed F/2.0 aperture in the standard version, and the full assembly weighs 5g. IR correction keeps visible and NIR wavelengths on nearly the same focal plane, so RGBIR sensors like the OX05B1S stay sharp across both bands without a refocus step. Two aperture variants ship. The F/2.0 version is the standard choice, and the F/5.6 version gives you more depth of field when the scene is deep and light is available.

The M12A variant comes with or without a 650nm IR cut filter. You should order CIL382-F2.0-M12A650 for daylight systems, and you should order CIL382-F2.0-M12ANIR for day-night and NIR applications. The lens works with e-con Systems, Allied Vision Alvium, FLIR Blackfly S, iDS uEye LE, The Imaging Source, and Basler Dart cameras through the Commonlands CLA019 lens holder.

All in-stock units ship the same day from San Diego when you order before 12 PM PST. Every CIL382 is 100% MTF tested at our ISO 9001:2015 facility. Contact engineering@commonlands.com if you need volume pricing or OEM integration support.
