|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CIL505 | 4.9mm | F/2.2 | 179° × 126° | -2.3% f-theta | 14.2mm | Out of stock |
| CIL508 | 8mm | F/2.4 | 83° × 65° | -5% | 17.6mm | $249.00 |
| CIL512 | 12mm | F/2.8 | 61° × 47° | -1.8% | 17.6mm | $249.00 |
| CIL513 | 15.8mm | F/2.8 | 48° × 36° | -1% | 17.6mm | $249.00 |
| CIL514 | 25mm | F/2.8 | 32° × 23° | -0.8% | 17.6mm | $249.00 |
The Commonlands FOV engine computes these angles for the active area the IMX253 and IMX304 share, not the full image circle, so they run narrower than the published diagonal on each product page. The fisheye projects a 14.2mm image circle inside that area, so its corners stay dark by design.
Which Cameras Use the 1.1" 12MP Format
The Sony IMX253 and IMX304 are the 1.1" global shutter sensors behind most 12MP industrial cameras: 4096 by 3000 pixels at 3.45µm. Basler builds the IMX253 into the ace acA4112-30um and IDS into the uEye SE U3-3000SE, while The Imaging Source builds the IMX304 into the 38UX304.
Newer 12MP sensors with 2.74µm pixels, the 1/1.1" Sony IMX545 and IMX565, fit inside the 17.6mm circle with a narrower field. Their finer pitch outruns a 3.45µm-class lens, so Commonlands points those cameras to the 1.1" 20MP-class series instead.
For the image-circle rules behind these pairings, read the Commonlands guides to sensor size and lens compatibility and image sensor selection for machine vision.
How to Choose a Focal Length for the IMX253
Pick the focal length from the field you must cover at your working distance: 83° horizontal with the 8mm lens on the IMX253 down to 32° with the 25mm. The 180° fisheye is the choice when one camera must watch a whole cell or room.
Distortion drops from -5% at 8mm to -0.8% at 25mm, so gauging and alignment work favors the longer focal lengths. Stop the iris down for depth of field and let programmable lighting make up the exposure; the depth of field calculator shows the tradeoff.
Working Distance and Minimum Focus on 1.1" 12MP Lenses
Working distance varies by product, typically 100mm to infinity for Commonlands C-mount lenses, and each product page lists the minimum focus distance. The working distance guide explains how the internal cam refocuses these designs and why the minimum object distance is a hard stop.
The CIL512 has a minimum focus distance of 80mm, and the CIL513 and CIL514 start at 100mm. The fisheye covers a whole cell from close range, and the depth of field guide helps you set the aperture once the standoff is fixed.
What the 12MP Rating Means at 3.45µm
The 12MP label names the sensor class Commonlands designed and toleranced these lenses for, not a measured resolving power. Ask for the MTF curve at your aperture and field height; the 8mm CIL508 also lists a stopped-down rating for sensors above 12MP.
All five designs are all-glass, and the rectilinear lenses weigh between 134g and 235g, which matters when the camera hangs from a robot wrist. The fisheye CIL505 adds an IP67 seal for washdown and outdoor stations.
