Field of View on the Sony IMX541 by Focal Length
| Lens | EFL | Max aperture | HFOV × VFOV on the IMX541 | Distortion | Image circle | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CIL542 | 12mm | F/2.8 | 55° × 55° | -0.6% | 17.6mm | $349.00 |
| CIL544 | 25mm | F/1.8 | 28° × 28° | -1% | 17.6mm | $349.00 |
| CIL545 | 35mm | F/2.8 | 20° × 20° | -0.07% | 17.6mm | $349.00 |
| CIL546 | 50mm | F/2.8 | 14° × 14° | -0.01% | 17.6mm | $349.00 |
The Commonlands FOV engine computes these angles for the IMX541 active area, not the full image circle, and the square sensor is why the two fields match. The 25MP Gpixel GMAX0505 shares the 1.1" format at 2.5µm; run it through the field of view calculator for its exact angles.
Which Cameras Use the 1.1" 20MP and 25MP Format
The Sony IMX541 is the 1.1" Pregius S sensor behind most 20MP industrial cameras: 4512 by 4512 pixels at 2.74µm with a global shutter. Basler builds it into the ace 2 a2A4504-18um, IDS into the uEye SE U3-3991SE and uEye+ CP, and The Imaging Source into the 38UX541.
The 25MP Gpixel GMAX0505 in the Basler boost boA5120-150 uses 2.5µm pixels, which is the pitch the 12mm CIL542 targets. The 16MP IMX542 and 20MP IMX531 share the IMX541 pitch and format, so any lens here covers them too.
For the image-circle rules behind these pairings, read the Commonlands guides to sensor size and lens compatibility and image sensor selection for machine vision.
How to Choose a Focal Length for the IMX541
Choose the focal length from the field you need at your working distance: 55° with the 12mm lens down to 14° with the 50mm on the IMX541. The square sensor gives the same angle in both axes, which simplifies fixture layout.
Distortion sits at -0.07% on the 35mm and -0.01% on the 50mm, low enough for gauging without software correction; the 12mm and 25mm run at -0.6% and -1%. Stop the iris down for depth of field and let programmable lighting make up the exposure.
Working Distance and Minimum Focus on 1.1" 20MP Lenses
Working distance varies by product, typically 100mm to infinity for Commonlands C-mount lenses, and each product page lists the minimum focus distance. The working distance guide explains how the internal cam refocuses these designs and why the minimum object distance is a hard stop.
The 35mm CIL545 is optimized from 200mm to infinity, and the 50mm design from 250mm, so both suit fixtures that keep the camera well back from the part. Use the depth of field guide to set the aperture at that standoff.
What 20MP and 25MP Ratings Mean at 2.74µm
The megapixel label names the sensor class Commonlands designed and toleranced each lens for, not a measured resolving power. At 2.74µm the lens must hold contrast at finer spatial frequencies than a 3.45µm design, which is why Commonlands tolerances this series more tightly than the 1.1" 12MP lenses.
All four are all-glass designs with adjustable irises, from F/1.8 on the 25mm to F/2.8 on the rest. Ask for the MTF curve at your aperture and field height before you commit a fixture design.
